Mark Dombroski, St. Joes Rugby

Mark Lee Dombroski, age 19 of Media, PA, was found deceased on March 19, 2018 (Feast of St. Joseph) in Bermuda, due to injuries sustained from a fall. Earlier in the weekend, Mark participated in the Ariel Re Bermuda Intl 7s tournament with his St. Joseph’s University teammates.

As we grapple to come to terms and celebrate Mark's life, URugby and the entire rugby community mourn his passing.

Raised in Media PA, Mark was the youngest son of John and Lisa (Lynn) Dombroski. Mark attended Nativity BVM School, Waldron Mercy Academy, Archmere Academy and was a freshman at St. Joseph’s University. He was a loved member of each school community. His loss is mourned by all of his classmates.

Mark is survived by his loving and proud big brothers, John and Kevin Dombroski, as well as Aunts & Uncles: Kathy and Rodger Davis, Frank and Lorraine Lynn, Tony and Janet Dombroski, and George and Cheryl Dombroski, as well as cousins: Elise Mattila, Tara, Stephen and Joseph Dombroski.

Mark had a friendly and “lit from within” personality and was a blessing to many beyond his family. Many have commented on his encouraging, positive attitude and beautiful smile. Mark wanted all to be happy, as he was. He helped many friends get through tough times. He loved Jesus and was an Altar Server at Nativity BVM and participated in numerous summer Mission trips to Appalachia with Media Presbyterian Church to help build and renovate homes.

Mark was a gifted athlete, and a spirited competitor. He excelled at each sport he tried. He was a Co-captain of both the Archmere football and rugby teams. He played Wide Receiver, Safety and was Punter & Kicker. In Rugby he played Wing and Full Back and received numerous Tournament and State awards, including MVP for the Delaware State Championship. He played Rose Tree and high school Soccer and was named All-Conference at Archmere. A gifted sprinter, he ran track for Nativity, and each year ran in the Archdiocesan CYO finals, frequently medaling in sprints and long jump. At Archmere, he qualified in long jump for the DE State Championship. He was on the Media Little League District Team and played CYO Basketball as well as Media Hoops.

Mark was recruited by numerous universities for rugby before selecting St. Joseph’s University. He played varsity and was in Bermuda for the Ariel Re Bermuda Intl 7s tournament as part of the team from St. Joes.

Mark enjoyed time in Brigantine, NJ wakeboarding, boating, and eating sunset bayside meals with family and friends. His family knows his love will always surround them.

Mark’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to:

Mark Dombroski Foundation

The Foundation’s focus will be youth education, athletics, and safety.
